The phrase "children are not just small adults" has true meaning in diagnostic imaging. In ultrasound, it is important to pay special attention to areas where normal pediatric anatomy differs significantly from normal adult anatomy. What may be normal in adult imaging can be mistaken for disease in neonates, infants, and children. We discuss these challenges and review some pediatric ultrasound exams that are not commonly performed in adults.
